14yo rapes schoolmate in Norway,
films assault & sends to friends

A 14-year old teen in Norway is suspected of raping a girl of the same age, police said, adding that the suspect filmed the assault on his phone and then sent the disturbing video to his friends. The victim is reportedly the suspect’s schoolmate.

The incident took place in Grenland district, Telemark County in southern Norway last week, as reported on Friday by the local Varden newspaper, which initially broke the story.

“The boy is suspected of rape and for spreading material of a sexual nature involving children,” police attorney Torunn Fossli Sæthre confirmed to Norway’s media. It was the girl’s parents who reported the case to police, according to broadcaster NRK.

Officers found a video on the boy’s smartphone, allegedly showing a sexual assault of a girl. The identity of the victim is not clearly seen in the recording. The same footage was found on a second phone belonging to a different person.

Both the victim and the suspect were attending the same school, according to Telemarksavisa newspaper. The alleged rape took place at the girl's residence, not at the school, the paper said, adding that the suspect must have sent the video of the abuse to several schoolmates.

“We don’t know how many people it [the video] has been sent to, but take the fact this happened very seriously. This makes the assault and the crime much worse,” Fossli Sæthre added. The suspect is currently in a youth detention facility in Telemark county.

Norway’s Child Welfare Services (Barnevernet) has taken the case as the suspect is under the minimum criminal age of 15 in Norway. “Police are now further investigating the case in order to find out what happened. What will then happen to the boy is the responsibility of Barnevernet. The accused is a child,” Fossli Sæthre told NRK.

Mother Of Child From Another Kolkata School Speaks Up On Abuse and Police Inaction

The two incidents of sexual abuse at top Kolkata schools have stirred the government. It has sought a report on security lapses at GD Birla. MP Birla too may face questions.

Kolkata | Written by Monideepa Banerjie |

The woman said her daughter, a student of MP Birla School, was less than four years old when molested

KOLKATA:  As Kolkata grapples to come to terms with the sexual abuse of a four-year-old girl at GD Birla School, the mother of another child from an equally well-known school has come forward to say that her daughter was molested, not once but at least twice by school staff. But despite complaints to police and school, neither had done anything about it, she has alleged.

"If the school and the police had acted on our complaint, then this little girl (from GD Birla) may have been spared the horror. The molesters would be scared of facing some police action. But nothing was done," the mother said.

Her daughter, a student of MP Birla School was less than four years old when molested. The parents have since removed the child from the school.

At GD Birla School, though two PT teachers were arrested on Friday after the 4-year-old complained of sexual abuse on Thursday, parents of other students in the school are not budging. They want the principal's resignation and will gather again at school on Monday to press their demand.

There was more outrage today when parents spotted CCTVs that had appeared overnight on the school's external walls. After a student was abused three years ago, the school had promised to install them and did not. Overnight, on Saturday, they were there.

Whether the other school, MP Birla has CCTV cameras or not is not clear. But the child had identified the molesters, the mother said.

"My daughter was shown many photos and she identified the two school staff who molested her. But the police have not arrested anyone yet. In fact, we were almost discouraged by police from filing the case because, they said, if we did file an FIR, our daughter would be taken away from us and put in a state-run home," the mother said.

The two incidents of sexual abuse at top Kolkata schools have stirred the government. It has sought a report on security lapses at GD Birla. MP Birla too may face questions.

The police need to face questions and be trained to a much higher level than what they appear to be. Their response is deplorable.

Sexual abuse of 4-yr-old: 'Mischief', say teachers;
principal defends accused

Kolkata: Teachers of a Kolkata school, where a 4-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused on Thursday afternoon, made attempts to lighten the situation after police arrested two physical training (PT) instructors in connection with the case. One of the teachers called the alleged crime a “mischief”.

The incident took place at GD Birla Centre for Education on Thursday. Abhishek and Mafizuddin lured the four-year-old girl with chocolates during the school hours and took her to the school’s toilet, where they committed the crime, according to preliminary investigation.

The teachers made the insensitive remarks on Friday when the guardians of others students were protesting against the incident outside the school.

One teacher laughed and said that there is nothing to do if someone is being “mischievous”, according to a report by ABP News.

Later, school principal Sharmila Nath issued a statement, where she tried to justify the incident, claiming that the vice-principal and other teachers were present at the school till 6 pm and no such occurrence took place during that time.

She added that the victim's parents have not formally complained to the school.

The principal also vouched for the accused instructors by adding that the victim did not have any PT class on Thursday and the teachers in question have been with the school for five to six years.

The alleged incident of sexual assault came to light when the minor girl’s mother spotted blood on her clothes. The child was also crying and complained of severe pain.

The girl told her mother that the physical training teacher had taken her to the washroom but could not narrate what happened thereafter.

Her parents then took her to a paediatrician, who advised her to take the girl to the police, Garg said.

The girl was admitted to the state-run SSKM Hospital late Thursday night and tests were performed to confirm the alleged sexual assault on her, hospital sources said.

Her condition was now stable and she was released, the sources said, adding that the investigation report has been submitted to the police. The parents of the girl child lodged a complaint at the Jadavpur Police station, a senior Kolkata Police officer said.

On Thursday night, Abhishek, in his early thirties, was detained for questioning by the police after the victim identified him as “dustu sir (naughty teacher)” when she was shown the photos. He was arrested on Friday.

Following the incident, parents of the students staged a dharna in front of the school for around 15 hours demanding immediate suspension of the accused teacher and action against the principal for alleged inaction.

The representatives of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education were apprised of the matter.

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said he is looking into the incident with "utmost seriousness".

"I have no words to condemn the incident. Strongest punishment should be given to those responsible for the incident," he said.

Chatterjee said that he had heard that such an incident had also taken place in that school three years ago and the school authorities should ensure security of the students.

Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Sasi Panja said the child welfare committee has been asked to visit the school and the hospital where the girl was admitted.

"I just cannot think of what has happened in that school. The authorities of the school had assured three years ago that they will ensure safety in the school premises," she said.

West Bengal Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, Chairperson, Ananya Chakraborty said, "I have asked the school authorities why CCTVs were not installed there in the last three years, but they have no answer."

"They said it will be done this month. I am not satisfied with their answer," she said.

India: Over 100,000 crimes against children
reported in 2016

According to a 2007 study conducted by India's ministry of women and child development, 53% of children surveyed said they had been subjected to some form of sexual abuse. Photo: AFP

(Web Desk) – A new report released in India by The National Crime Records Bureau indicates that the country has seen a steady rise in the incidents of offenses against children.

Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi released a report on crimes in India for 2016. According to the BBC, the report indicated that 106,958 cases of crimes against children were recorded in 2016. Of these, 36,022 cases were recorded under Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

Child sexual abuse was highlighted in India, when a 10-year-old girl was raped and later forced to give birth hit the headlines. Two of her uncles were sentenced to life in jail for raping her.

India is home to the largest number of sexually abused children in the world, but there is a general reluctance to talk about the social issue, the real numbers could be much higher than the number of cases recorded by the police, reported the BBC.

According to a 2007 study conducted by India s ministry of women and child development, 53% of children surveyed said they had been subjected to some form of sexual abuse.

Campaigners say most of the abusers are people known to the victims, like parents, relatives and schoolteachers.

There are approximately 500 mn children in India under the age of 18. If 53% of them have been sexually abused, assuming an equal number each year, that would mean 14 mn children are being abused each year.

Even that is woefully inadequate to reflect the devastation. Of the 53%, more than half were boys. There are more boys in India than girls but not enough to make that big a difference. The 2007 survey, I am convinced missed a lot of children, especially girls who either could not bring themselves to disclose abuse, or were in denial as is often the case.

I am convinced the number for girls is in the 75-80% range and for the boys is probably closer to 65%. That would bring the total number of children being sexually abused each year to nearly 20 mn.

But there is one more issue. These are only the number of children being introduced to child sex abuse. Most of them will be repeatedly abused for years. God only knows the total number of incidents of children being sexually abused in India on a yearly basis, but I expect that number exceeds 100,000,000.

Teacher on child sex guide rap 'tickled girls during lessons to get his thrills'

Police seized Nicholas Fisher's computer and allegedly found four manuals with one called 'How to Practice Child Love'

Which is not 'Love' at all but lust. No-one who loves a child could do the incredible life-long damage that sex abuse causes.

By Arun LalBen Goddard

A music teacher sexually abused seven schoolgirls during lessons before using a collection of "paedophile manuals" as guides to avoid detection, a court heard.

Nicholas Fisher, 43, is accused of abusing youngsters by inappropriately tickling them and possessing paedophile handbooks called 'The Jazz Guide' and 'Child Love Levels.'

A court heard he had worked in primary and secondary schools for the past 20 years and would also run one-on-one sessions at his own music school.

On November 25 last year police seized his computer and allegedly found indecent images of children and four manuals - including one called 'How To Practise Child Love'.

Another of the documents found was entitled 'Child Love Levels' and was described as a "guide to sexual activity with children graded by risk of detection levels 1-5".

Fisher previously pleaded guilty to downloading indecent images of a child, of which 29 were of the highest category A, 29 category B and 48 category C.

He also accepted possessing paedophilic material in a computer folder called 'Jazz Guide', containing advice of how to sexually abuse children.'

Fisher denies further counts of making indecent images of category A, B and C and of making moving photograph of a child category A and B.

He also denied 10 charges of sexual offences against seven girls between 2000 and 2016, as well as three separate counts of possessing a paedophile manual.

Fisher, of Bartestree, Herefordshire, is on trial at Worcester Crown Court.

Jurors were told other images of young girls were found on his computer, which were not indecent, but turned out to be of former pupils.

Prosecutor John O'Higgins: "When the girls were questioned further, a picture emerged that there was a lot of touching during their lessons and little was thought of it at the time as it wasn't perceived as sexual.

"There was a lot of sitting on his lap and hugging him which was all completely unnecessary. A number of these girls were tickled quite vigorously on their ribs."

"The paedophile can get sexual satisfaction from touching a child without exposing himself to great risk of detection. One of the things that is within that level is tickling."

"We say he has a sexual interest in children and in particular young girls and that is his motivation behind his otherwise unnecessary touching."

Fisher told officers he had the images on his computer as he was making music CDs from the recording of his pupils. He denied any interest in children and provided passwords for police access, telling them nothing would be found related to child abuse.

Lucie Stoker, defending, said: "Fisher pleaded guilty on a basis to possessing the Jazz Guide and the indecent images inside it. He looked through the content to try and understand sexual abuse. He deleted the file, he denies the remaining counts and denies any knowledge or intention of downloading the files."

Doesn't exactly sound like a repentant soul, does he?

The trial continues.

Notorious orphanage ‘covered up’ the deaths of children in its care including a boy who was savagely beaten by a nun

A notorious orphanage ‘covered up’ the deaths of children in its care including a boy who was savagely beaten by a nun, an inquiry heard yesterday.

One former resident of Smyllum Park in Lanark said six-year-old Sammy Carr died days after a nun launched a frenzied attack on him, repeatedly kicking him in the head.

In posthumous evidence, another ex-resident said 13-year-old Francis McColl died after a member of staff hit him on the head with a golf club.

Deaths were ‘covered up’ at the institution, run by ‘psychopathic’ nuns who meted out physical and sexual abuse – and even used crucifixes as ‘weapons’.

It emerged earlier this year that at least 400 children from Smyllum are thought to be buried in an unmarked grave at the town’s St Mary’s Cemetery.

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry (SCAI) heard harrowing testimony from Smyllum survivors yesterday.

One witness, named only as David, told the inquiry, before Lady Smith, that Sammy was kicked on the body and head by a Catholic sister.

David entered the orphanage in 1959 when he was aged around two, along with three brothers and a sister.

In tearful testimony at the Edinburgh hearing, he said beatings at the institution were routine, and that on one occasion when he was aged around six, Sammy was beaten after playing with a match and accidentally burning his hand.

He said: ‘It was unfortunate but at that time the sister came around the corner and said, “What’s wrong?”, and I said, “He burned my hand”, and she just grabbed him and started hitting him and punching him.

‘He was on the floor and she was kicking him on his body and his head. I said, “Please sister, please don’t hurt him”. She stopped when I lay on top of him.’

He said he next saw Sammy in the sick room and the inquiry heard the boy was in hospital for around 10 days before he died.

David said he remembered walking past Sammy’s open coffin and assumed that the little boy had been ‘joking’ and pretending to be dead - only realising later that he had been present at Sammy’s funeral.

Francis McColl, playing with cars on the floor, at the nursery of Smyllum Park.
The boy died after a member of staff hit him on the head with a golf club

The nun who administered the beating later took David to Sammy’s grave.

David said: ‘She just stood here, there was this new plot, she must have said, “Sammy’s there”.’

He told the inquiry that he was filled with ‘rage’ for the rest of his life over his treatment at Smyllum.

This included being sexually abused by a nun - as she told him he was ‘going to hell’.

He told how children who wet the bed were made to stand with the wet sheets around their necks in the morning.

David said Smyllum had been filled with the screams of children, and he suffers recurring nightmares about his time at the orphanage.

But despite his ordeal he later went to college, telling the inquiry: ‘I do not want my life to be worth nothing.’

David was later abused at a home called St Vincent’s, Newcastle, run by the same order.

He said a ‘psychopathic’ nun held a bread knife to his throat - and he ‘genuinely thought he was going to die’.

The unmarked grave where hundreds of the orphans are believed to be buried in Lanark

Smyllum Park was run by the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul from 1860 to 1981, looking after an estimated 4,400 children since 1930.

One of the campaigners who fought for the launch of the SCAI was a resident at Smyllum Park, and gave evidence before his death in April.

Frank Docherty, who was 74, was a founder of the charity In Care Abuse Survivors (INCAS).

In 1954, aged nine, he and his siblings were sent to the home, where he said he suffered abuse including beatings.

His posthumous testimony, read to the inquiry on yesterday, claimed that Francis had died after being hit with a golf club by a ‘psychotic’ staff member – not a nun – who cannot be named for legal reasons.

It has been reported previously that Francis passed away at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary in August in 1961 after battling a ‘left extra plural haemorrhage’ for seven days. He was 13.

Mr Docherty said there were no records of his burial and he had reported it to police before his death, but had heard nothing from them.

It is understood that there are no live investigations into the deaths of Sammy or Francis.

The Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul ran the Smyllum Park orphanage,
in Lanark from 1864 until it closed in 1981

But Police Scotland said a probe had been carried out which found that Sammy’s death had not involved trauma or criminality.

The Crown Office is now reinvestigating historical child abuse cases.

A Crown Office spokesman said it had instructed Police Scotland to carry out investigations into allegations of abuse at care institutions in Scotland, adding: ‘It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.’

Mr Docherty, who became an alcoholic because of his experience at Smyllum, said he and other Smyllum children were subjected to freezing cold baths, ridiculed for wetting their beds and beaten with a hair-brush.

There were ‘mass punishments’ twice a week when children were beaten with sticks by nuns who ‘controlled by fear’.

Commenting on the staff member who stuck Francis, Mr Docherty said: ‘There were cover-ups for deaths he caused. Children were dying of brain haemorrhages.’

Describing a beating from one sister, Mr Docherty said: ‘I got the biggest doing of my life from a holy nun... I couldn’t believe it was happening to me.’

Prosecutors have said there is no evidence that a crime has been committed at the orphanage in relation to reports of the mass grave.

Not that anyone is actually looking for evidence!

More than 60 residential institutions, including several top private schools, are being investigated by the inquiry.

Another former resident, named only as Fergie, said she had been admitted to Smyllum in 1959.

She recounted sharing dirty bathwater, being force-fed porridge - and nuns using crucifixes as ‘weapons’.

Fergie said: ‘They would call you “devil’s spawn”, “immoral,”; they would say, “’you’ll be nothing in life”…’

In June, Sister Ellen Flynn, leader of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul in Britain, was asked at the SCAI about alleged abuse at Smyllum.

She said: ‘We accept accusations have been made and we are appalled something like that may have been acceptable, and very sorry, but we cannot confirm there was abuse.’

In opening statements to the inquiry on yesterday, John Scott QC, senior counsel for INCAS, said the name Smyllum will be ‘forever associated with suffering’.

He said: ‘Just how could abuse of such extent and duration occur without knowledge, especially given how closely knit a community the place was? ‘Either people knew because they were involved or they knew and did nothing to stop it or nobody took time to find out what life was like in this showpiece home."

‘The Smyllum way became shorthand for wicked abuse. The Smyllum way did not involve only one or two abusers, it involved many abusers and took place over decades.'

‘It seems to have been part of the institutional memory of the place.’

Lagos rescues teenager from sexual abuse

Officials of the Child Protection Unit of Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development have rescued a 14-year-old girl identified simply as Favour from sexual abuse in the hands of her Uncle.

A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the ministry, Mrs Olabisi Adeola said the teenager was rescued at Shasha- Akowonjo in Alimosho Local Government Area.

Her rescue came as a result of reports from an anonymous source who informed the Child Protection Unit’s hotline to inform government on illicit acts observed at Block 2, Flat 9, Millennium Estate, Afonka, Shasha where Favour resides with her cousin, Mrs. Eze Kelechi and the younger brother to Eze’s husband, Nelson.

Favour said she had been subjected to series of sexual abuse by Nelson since Eze had accommodation issues after she separated with her husband in December 2015 and chose the option of moving into a two bedroom apartment occupied by Nelson, pending the time she will resolve issues on accommodation.

She said the first time she was abused was in October 2015, when Nelson pushed her to the bed, while she struggled with him, but her strength was never a match to that of Nelson, who warned her never to report the incident to Eze (her cousin).

The statement reads: ‘’Subsequently, Nelson continued the act as he was enjoying it, to the extent that he drugs drinks for her and Eze’s children to fall asleep. At times, she would wake up to find herself naked without knowing what transpired.

‘’The indecent act continued till June 2017 she discovered a stop in her monthly flow and reported to Nelson who did not deny being responsible. He decided to get drugs to abort the pregnancy, but was prevented following a scan that revealed she was three months pregnant.

‘’The matter was later reported to the Shasha Police Division, where the case was interrupted due to family pressure, mandating Nelson to take full responsibility and custody of Favour. These did not stop Nelson from further having sex with her, claiming the intercourse is on the basis of helping her enlarge her pelvic during labour.’’

The Lagos State Government has taken custody of the girl for protection and care pending conclusion of investigations ongoing by the police and the state government.

It will be recalled that earlier this year, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola had warned that perpetrators of child abuse of any kind will not be spared but severely punished.

NZ man guilty of 14 sexual abuse counts
By Rob Kidd

A Dunedin man accused of sexually abusing a girl for nearly four years has been found guilty of 14 charges and faces a long stint behind bars.

The verdicts included five counts of rape, two of which were representative charges, denoting the conduct happened on at least one occasion.

The 53-year-old, who has name suppression, was also found guilty of three charges of sexual conduct with a child and six of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection.

The defendant was acquitted of five charges after the jury returned verdicts at 9pm on Thursday night, following a gruelling nine hours of deliberation.

After three days of evidence, Crown prosecutor Craig Power told jurors during his closing address that they should believe the victim — now in her late teens.

"[She] was a good witness, a compelling witness, an honest witness," he said.

While it was accepted the man did not hold the girl down to commit the abuse, Mr Power said he exerted control over her. "This is a man who manipulated her," he said.

"She said effectively she had to let him do it, she had no choice."

Defence counsel John Westgate said there were at least six people to whom the victim could have disclosed the allegations long before she did. He told the jury it was one of the key reasons they should not believe her. But for the most part, they disagreed.

Mr Power pointed to the girl’s evidence in his closing about why she did not come forward earlier.

"There are a lot of emotional, mental and psychological factors involved that you aren’t considering," the victim said during cross-examination.

"My brain wasn’t thinking about things being abusive or incorrect at that time because I was a child."

The court heard how some of the allegations came from trips away from Dunedin. On one occasion, the victim said the defendant drove her to Auckland for a Taylor Swift concert, plied her with alcohol and he raped her in a hotel room.

But the jury found the man not guilty on allegations he had whisked her away to a hotel in Queenstown, gave her cannabis and committed similar acts.

Hmmm. Why would they believe one and not the other?

According to the jury’s verdict the abuse ran from 2012 to mid-2015. A key witness for the Crown was a former workmate of the defendant who said the man had bragged about buying the young girl a sex toy. He also told the jury he recalled his colleague describing the victim as "hot, or words to that effect".

With a lengthy sentence of imprisonment inevitable, after verdicts were passed, the defendant was remanded in custody by Judge Michael Crosbie.

He will be sentenced in March. A final decision on name suppression will be made at that hearing.
