Delaware men face charges for drugs,
endangering children
Christina Jedra, The News Journal

Two Milford men face criminal charges related to possession of drugs and endangering the welfare of children after Delaware State Police in Kent County concluded a two-month investigation into illegal drug sales, officials said Saturday.

On Thursday, members of the Kent County drug unit, the Kent and Sussex County Governor’s Task Force and the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team executed search warrants in the 200 block and 400 block of North Street in Milford.

The Milford and Dover police departments also executed search warrants in the 400 block of North Street and the 100 block of Allen Way within the city limits of Milford, officials said.

State police special operations officials contacted two Milford residents, 46-year-old Carl W. Watson and 26-year-old Dion Russ, and both were taken into custody without incident, police said.

Officers recovered 1.2 grams of crack cocaine in the 200 block of North Street, a residence where Watson's three juvenile children were present, according to police.

Special operations team members also contacted a 31-year-old Milford resident, who was taken into custody without incident during the execution of the search warrant in the 400 block of North Street, officials said. He was later released and not criminally charged, police said.

Carl W. Watson was charged with possession with the intent to deliver crack cocaine, second-degree conspiracy and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child at the residence on the 200 block of North Street, according to police.

Watson was additionally charged with five counts of delivery of crack cocaine and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia related to an active arrest warrant stemming from a Troop 3 drug-related investigation, police said.

Watson was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $65,600 secured bond, police said. He was issued a no-contact order with his three juvenile children.

Dion Russ was charged with possession with the intent to deliver crack cocaine, second-degree conspiracy and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child relating to the execution of the narcotics search warrant in the 200 block of North Street, police said.

Russ was also charged with delivery of crack cocaine for an active arrest warrant that was already on file relating to this investigation, and with failing to re-register as a sex offender for an active arrest warrant, officials said.

Russ was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $42,400 secured bond. He was also issued a no-contact order with the three juvenile children of the North Street residence.

Drugs, a pedophile, children... not a good mix.

With new information, new questions arise in
Aurora priest sex abuse case
Hannah Leone
Aurora Beacon-News

New disclosures are raising questions in the case of an Aurora priest charged with sex abuse whose trial has been repeatedly delayed while he faces deportation.

"I know the state wants to keep this trial on the calendar," Kane County Circuit Judge Linda Abrahamson said Friday. "But this recent disclosure is like an atomic bomb."

Alfredo Pedraza-Arias, 51, has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, which allege that he sexually abused two girls at Aurora's Sacred Heart Church between 2012 and 2014, when both girls were younger than six. He appeared in custody in the courtroom Friday, along with his attorney, David Camic; Assistant State's Attorney Reagan Pittman; a representative from the Rockford Diocese; and a Spanish translator.

Abrahamson said the trial, slated for November, may be affected by whether lawyers have access to a man who investigated the case for the Kane County Child Advocacy Center. New material disclosed last week includes notes about interviews the investigator conducted that weren't turned in when they should have been, Camic said.

While lawyers would like to speak to the investigator, it was not clear if he remained with the Child Advocacy Center. The Kane County State's Attorney's office would not confirm the investigator's employment status, stating they don't comment on personnel matters.

Both Pittman and Camic said they also had concerns about 200 new pages of information from the Catholic diocese. The judge ordered the diocese to address her questions about parts of the material within 14 days.

Meanwhile, a deportation order signed in June by a federal immigration judge means Arias could still be sent back to Colombia, where he is from. If that happens, prosecutors could ask to have him tried in absentia, but they've said it's unclear whether that would work or if he could be extradited for proceedings.

At a June federal hearing, Arias asked a judge to remove him from the country, prompting a judge to issue a deportation order, the Beacon-News reported. He waived his right to appeal the deportation order, said Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Leticia Zamarripa.

Why did the judge issue a deportation order? Does that make any sense?

"(Arias) is trying to use his deportation to avoid trial in this case and is trying to flee the jurisdiction," prosecutors stated in court filings.

In attempts to keep Arias away from immigration officials, the Kane County judge granted prosecutors' motions to raise his bail and remand him to the custody of the county judicial center. The first time, someone came up with the additional $10,000 bond and he was released, only to be picked up again by immigration officials. Prosecutors made another request, Abrahamson raised bail by another $100,000, and Arias returned July 28 to the jail, where he remained Friday evening.

It seems odd the the judicial system and immigration system often find themselves at cross-purposes.

Though prosecutors in September sought to have Arias' bond revoked, Pittman on Friday said his pending deportation is no longer a pressing concern. She cited the length of time he has been back in jail as an indicator he would remain there. Camic said the parishioners who came up with earlier bonds had run out of money.

It drives me crazy when parishioners side with the pedophile, be he priest or pastor. It's the children who need support, not the pervert.

Immigration officials previously said they would take Arias back into custody if he were released from the jail again and execute the deportation order once his criminal case goes through the court system.

Tribal leader sentenced to 30 years for child sex abuse

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A former Standing Rock Sioux tribal leader has been sentenced to 30 years in sexually abusing a girl.

The Bismarck Tribune reports 54-year-old Robert Fool Bear was sentenced Friday in federal court. He was found guilty in April guilty on four counts related to sexual abuse of a child.

Authorities say Fool Bear repeatedly raped the girl for four years. He maintained that the girl made up the story.

A small number of people attended the sentencing hearing, including Fool Bear's wife, Rhonda Krein Fool Bear.

She signed a plea deal in July with federal prosecutors in which she admitted not alerting law enforcement. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop a charge alleging that she lied at the trial of her husband.

Her sentencing is scheduled for December.

New Hampshire man to plead guilty to
sexual assault of teenager
By ALYSSA DANDREA

A Tilton, NH man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old and photographing the abuse has reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

Charles Beckley, 54, faces more than a decade in state prison, according to the agreement filed in Belknap County Superior Court in Laconia. Upon his release, he also faces additional suspended prison time, which the court can impose if he is not of good behavior for 20 years.

Beckley is charged with five counts of felonious sexual assault, one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault, two counts of manufacturing child sexual abuse images and three counts of misdemeanor sexual assault.

Beckley was previously employed as the transfer station manager in Canterbury, but his name has been removed from the town’s website.

Tilton police began investigating Beckley in May after a woman reported that Beckley had confided in her about the sexual abuse, according to an affidavit prepared by Detective Bryan Kydd-Keeler. The woman provided police with Facebook messages of a conversation she had with Beckley.

She told police she was upset because “it was not the first time that Charles had told her he had sex with someone 12-14 years old,” the affidavit says, noting that two other females were mentioned.

Tilton police Chief Robert Cormier told the Monitor in August that additional child victims had come forward in the months since Beckley’s arrest; however, no additional criminal charges have been filed.

Detectives executed a search warrant at Beckley’s home on Grange Road as part of their investigation. The 13-year-old girl told a forensic interviewer that she and Beckley had sexual intercourse at the residence on two occasions, the affidavit says.

A grand jury indicted Beckley in August for those offenses and for other sex crimes alleged to have taken place between February and May.

Beckley is incarcerated at the Belknap County jail in Laconia.

A plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25 in Belknap County Superior Court.

Day care worker in wheelchair allegedly caught raping baby in Orlando Chick-fil-A bathroom
by: Mark Boxley

ORLANDO, Fla. - A 35-year-old wheelchair-bound Orlando man was arrested and charged with numerous counts after a customer at a Chick-fil-A allegedly caught him raping a baby girl in the restaurant’s bathroom, police said.

The witness told police that he went to the restroom and while he was at the urinal, saw something questionable in a reflection on the wall tile, an Orlando police report said.

“(The witness) was not sure if the baby was bouncing or if they were having sex,” the report said. “(The witness) stated he flushed the toilet on purpose to let the man hear him in the bathroom. (The witness) stated, if he panics, then he must be doing something wrong.”

The witness told investigators that the man, later identified as David Michael Gray, panicked and tried to leave the bathroom.

When the witness confronted him and tried to keep him from leaving, Gray allegedly pulled out a stun gun and threatened to kill the man, the police report said.

In a statement, Gray’s employer, who was not identified, told investigators that he was a day care worker at her home.

Another witness told officers that Gray comes into the restaurant at least twice a week with a woman and children, the police report said.

“She saw him take the baby into the bathroom, and on several occasions, he took other small babies into the bathroom with him,” the report said.

The Orlando Police Department did not say if investigators were planning to charge Gray with additional charges involving other alleged victims.

Gray was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a child younger than 12, lewd or lascivious battery, lewd or lascivious molestation on a child younger than 12, lewd or lascivious conduct by a person older than 17, child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and exposure of sexual organs.

He was being held without bond at the Orange County Jail.

Substitute teacher accused of sexually abusing students at elementary school in Utah

BY MARK GREEN AND LAUREN STEINBRECHER,

CLEARFIELD, Utah -- A man is in the Davis County Jail facing three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child after several children say he touched them inappropriately while teaching their class as a substitute.

According to a press release from the Clearfield Police Department, two different parents reported the alleged abuse to police on September 27, saying a substitute teacher at Wasatch Elementary School touched their children inappropriately.

One woman told Fox 13 her 8-year old son was one of the victims. She said her son reported being touched by the substitute teacher more than once while he played with a toy in the classroom on September 27.

The mother said her son told her that afternoon when she picked him up, and she went to the school office to report the incident. While in the office, she said another family happened to be there at the same time to report a similar incident with their child.

Police interviewed the two juveniles the next day and identified the teacher in question as Mark Bedel. The investigation led to a third alleged victim from the school.

Parents who live near the school said they were terrified and shocked at the news.

"It breaks my heart to know that it was so close to home," Johanna Olsen said. Olsen said her 10-year old daughter attends 5th grade at Wasatch Elementary, and Mr. Bedel was supposed to substitute teach her daughter's class in the coming days.

On Friday, she said she received a voicemail and email from the school letting parents know of the arrest and allegations. "It seems like nowhere is safe anymore, not a church, not a school-- nowhere's safe," she said. "It's kind of like, you want to just lock them in a bubble and not let anyone around them."

Bedel was taken into custody without incident at his home in Kaysville, and as of Friday he remains in the Davis County Jail on three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, according to the press release.

Christopher Williams of the Davis School District said Bedel has been a substitute teacher since March 2016 but is no longer an employee of the school district following the arrest.

"We are shocked by the allegations, are taking this matter very seriously and are cooperating with investigators," Williams stated in an email.

Police say they are conducting additional investigations and they encourage parents to talk to their children and report "anything they feel is suspicious."
