Illinois Man Sentenced to 27 Years in Prison for Child Sex Assault
WSPYNEWS

Kane County Circuit Judge James Hallock sentenced 24 year-old Orane Foster of Aurora in court on Friday.

On May 11 of this year, Foster was convicted of four counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, each a Class X felony.

He was also convicted of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a Class 2 felony.

According to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, Foster sexually assaulted the 12 year old female victim between June and August of 2015 while living with the victim and her mother.

In addition to the prison term, Foster must register for life as a sexual offender.

Illinois law requires Foster to serve at least 85% of the sentence.

He will receive credit for 722 days served in the Kane County Jail.

For a city of 200,000, there are an awful lot of stories on this blog from Aurora. I found 4 stories from Aurora prior to today; they involve a priest, a pastor and 2 other men. All but the pastor are Hispanic or Latino. One third of Aurora's population is Hispanic or Latino. Of course it could all be a coincidence because there is nothing scientific about what stories make it onto my blog.

Utah doctor re-arrested, accused of sex abuse
By Pat Reavy KSL-TV

BOUNTIFUL, Utah — A Bountiful doctor arrested two weeks ago in an investigation involving child pornography was back in the Davis County Jail Friday.

Nathan Clark Ward, 55, of Bountiful, was arrested Friday for investigation of two counts of forcible sexual abuse, forcible sodomy, aggravated sex abuse of a child, and sodomy on a child.

He was being held without bail. The Davis County Sheriff's Office is listed in jail records as the arresting agency.

Friday's arrest comes on the heels of Ward's July 20 arrest when he was booked into jail for investigation of seven counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was arrested by the Davis County Sheriff's Office and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at that time.

Details about his latest arrest were not immediately available.

Despite the two arrests, no criminal charges have been filed against Ward.

In his original arrest, a probable cause booking report stated that Ward was being investigated for online conversations in which he allegedly discussed raping young girls, ages 13 and 15, and "describes desires to rape females and minors."

The investigation into Ward began in November of 2016 when possible sexually exploitative images of children were detected being uploaded at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, the report states.

Over the course of the eight-month investigation, an email address that was created in 2002 in Idaho was allegedly linked to Ward. In addition, IP addresses associated with that account included Lakeview Hospital, an Intermountain Healthcare hospital (possibly LDS Hospital), St. Mark's Hospital and Ward's home, according to the report.

From those locations, authorities found seven images of children being sexually exploited that were uploaded through that account, the report states. Other images uploaded allegedly included "voyeuristic pictures of underage females."

Investigators also found the email account "engaged in several conversations online by instant messenger and email as well as Craigslist ads. The conversations are explicit in nature," deputies wrote.

"The suspect discloses that he has raped a 15-year-old who was drunk on vodka, after her father 'set it up.' The suspect also states he raped a 13-year-old," according to messages from August of 2016, the report states.

Ward was suspended from Lakeview Hospital after his first arrest. The sheriff's office reported then that detectives still had a "signficant amount" of other chats and emails they wanted to review.

Ward specialized in obstetrics and gynecology. He has been in practice for more than 25 years.

Pennsylvania teacher pleads guilty to
sexual abuse of female student
by: Jeffrey Caplan

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A Pennsylvania teacher accused of having sexual contact multiple times with a 16-year-old female student accepted a plea deal Monday.

Nina Scott, 28, reportedly taught at a school called The Village – a court-ordered child-care facility for kids with emotional and behavioral problems in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania – from October 2015 until she was fired in December. She was arrested in January.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Scott faced numerous counts of institutional sexual assault, corruption of minors and other charges for alleged sexual encounters with the girl in 2016. The encounters took place at their school, in Scott’s vehicle and her home, police said.

Charging documents said the student initiated the relationship when she passed a note to Scott asking her, “How would you feel if I kissed you?” Scott reportedly returned the note with a message that she would not tell anyone. Officers said a search the girl’s room revealed a stash of love letters from Scott to the student.

Scott, who reportedly called her student “her girlfriend” and even referred to her 2-year-old as “their daughter,” pleaded guilty Monday to institutional sexual assault.

The Main Line Times reported that Scott will serve at least three months on electronic home monitoring. Scott also was placed on five years of sex offender probation and prohibited from contacting the girl.

Scott apologized to the victim and her family, as well as her own family.

“This will never happen again,” she told Delaware County Court of Common Pleas Judge Richard Cappelli, according to the Times.

New child pornography charges and previous convictions prompted search

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office detective hotline at 505-333-7878.

FARMINGTON, NM — The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is seeking possible victims of a convicted sex offender who recently was arrested on child pornography charges.

Anthony Mihaley, 56, of Kirtland, recently was accused of distribution of visual medium of sexual exploitation of children and possession of visual medium of sexual exploitation (child under 13), according to court records.

He waived his preliminary hearing on Thursday, and his case was bound over to district court.

Mihaley was convicted of "rape of a child" in Pacific County, Wash., in 2000, according to the affidavit for the child pornography charges.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office believes there might be victims in the area who might not have come forward about alleged sexual abuse, according to detectives.

Matthew Cockman, Mihaley's public defender on the child pornography charges, did not respond to requests for comment. Mihaley was being held today at the San Juan County Detention Center on a no-bond hold.

Mihaley pleaded guilty to failing to register a sex offender and concealing his identity during an April 24 hearing in district court.

Det. Guy Mauldin of the sheriff's office said Mihaley had been using a fake name while living in New Mexico for two years before he was arrested in June 2016 on the failure to register and concealing identity charges.

He added that deputies have observed children in the home with Mihaley during visits to his residence.

The combination of the new child pornography charges, along with the failure to register and concealing identity convictions, prompted the sheriff's office to reach out to area residents, according to Mauldin.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office detective hotline at 505-333-7878.

Oklahoma man charged with child sexual abuse
By Jarrel Wade Tulsa World

Tulsa County prosecutors charged a man Thursday on four counts of child sexual abuse.

Bryan Christopher O'Rourke Sr., 40, is charged in Tulsa County District Court with child sexual abuse related to incidents from December 2013 to December 2016 at two separate addresses, most recently in Tulsa and in Talala.

A police affidavit lists the first incident and O'Rourke's last known address as being in the 9500 block of South 4080 Road in Talala. More recent incidents listed in the affidavit occurred in the 4300 block of East 118th Street in Tulsa.

The charges describe one victim.

The police affidavit indicates investigators started to look at the case in March and began DNA tests in May.

The Tulsa Police Forensics Lab report was obtained by investigators in early July, indicating that O'Rourke "cannot be excluded as a potential major contributor of the DNA information" obtained from the victim's underwear, according to the police affidavit.

Jail records and the affidavit do not indicate whether O'Rourke is currently in custody.

Woman in child sex abuse case re-arrested
in Washington state
Elisa Hahn, KING

Federal prosecutors are expected to file charges against a Pierce County man and woman who police say were plotting to sexually abuse children.

50-year-old Gail Burnworth was re-arrested Friday just before 6 p.m. for a federal warrant for conspiracy to produce child pornography, according to the FBI. She's scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday when prosecutors will release more information.

A spokesperson for the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office said she was originally released Thursday night because they reached the 72 hour limit on how long they could hold her pending further investigation.

The detective leading Washington state's task force on Internet Crimes Against Children said the case is still solid and the couple could face federal charges as early as Friday.

"My experience has been individuals who engage in this type of criminal activity they're obsessed people," said Seattle Police Captain Mike Edwards.

Edwards tried to explain the mindset of someone who sexually abuses a child–why 56-year-old Michael Kellar, who was on a Southwest flight–would have allegedly pulled out his cell phone and started texting someone about his disturbing plans.

"It was a very large phone with very large font," said Edwards. "So it was hard on an airplane not to see it anyways. But for her, now she was kind of dialed in. She noticed the comment in the messages that appeared to be something that was going to be putting the children in danger. That there was going to be harm done to these children. So at that point, she pulled her phone out and started taking pictures of the messages herself."

That good Samaritan notified the flight crew and police were waiting to take Kellar into custody when they landed in San Jose.

Burnworth, who Kellar allegedly sent the texts to in Tacoma, was also arrested.

"That citizen happened to be a pre-school teacher," said Edwards. "For her, her kids are her life. And because the messages involve children, that got her attention even more."

"Because she did what she did, she saved these children from horrific abuse," Edwards said. "For that, she should be commended."

Edwards said Kellar and Burnworth met on a dating site about a year ago. It was Burnworth who knows the alleged victims.

Kellar has a court appearance in San Jose Monday, according to the Santa Clara District Attorney's office.
