A squad of specialist youth workers is being sent into Rotherham to stop more child sex abuse, reports the Sunday People.
The £3 million move follows Prof Alexis Jay’s devastating report last year into child sex exploitation.
And it only took a year bring about.
She found that 1,400 children, some only 11, suffered appalling abuse as police and the local council turned a blind eye.
The outreach workers will operate through children’s charity Barnardo’s and look for new victims as well as helping existing ones to rebuild their lives in the South Yorkshire town.
Communities Secretary Greg Clark said: “These new services will ensure that victims are supported as they seek justice through the courts.”
Prof Jay found council staff feared being labelled racist if they focused on Asian men, who were the majority of the attackers.
This is good news, of course, though rather tardy in coming. So, now, what about all the other jurisdictions where the same sexploitation of young girls is occurring? What is being done in the Pakistani communities and with new immigrants to educate them that this is not acceptable in the UK? Hello?
